How to Use the DVD

The DVD that accompanies 24P: Make Your Digital Movies Look Like Hollywood provides examples of the kinds of projects you can produce using 24p technology to create film-look video. You’ll find examples of footage originated in-camera at 24p, as well as 60i footage converted to 24p in postproduction. Most of it was shot and edited in DV format, but you’ll also find some clips from Nicolas, which was shot and finished in HD 24p. (Playback from the DVD is limited to standard TV resolution, however.) With the exception of Nicolas, which was edited on Avid, the editing was done using Apple Final Cut Pro, and the DVD was authored using Adobe After Effects and Apple DVD Studio Pro. We used Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite for the postproduction 24p conversions, and the music for all clips except those from Nicolas was scored using SmartSound Sonicfire Pro.

To watch the movies, insert the DVD into a computer that has a DVD-R or –RW drive (such as a Mac SuperDrive), or into a set-top DVD player. Mac computers require DVD Player or comparable software. Windows machines must have Windows Media Player or comparable application. You can access all clips through the on-screen menus.

You can pick up a lot just by watching the shorts and interviews. If you want to delve deeper, you’ll probably find a more detailed explanation in the book. If you still have questions, send the authors an email at info@lapuerta.tv or check the Reader Support section this website.

The disc also contains demonstration software. You can only access these files on a computer equipped with a DVD-R or –RW drive. On a Mac, use the Finder application to explore the disc and open the files. On a PC, use Windows Explorer. The applications are provided in both Mac and PC versions, with the exception of Sony Vegas, which is available only for computers that run Windows.
